In March of 2017, Khalid released his studio debut, American Teen, an album which was met with critical acclaim and propelled the El Paso, Texas native to mainstream success with the help of standout cuts "Location" and "Young Dumb & Broke." Fast-forward a year and a half later, Khalid has built a pretty impressive résumé, having earned five Grammy nominations and scored collaborations with acts like Kendrick Lamar,6lack,Ty Dolla Sign, and Alina Baraz.

Today, Khalid returns with his latest project, Suncity. The EP proves to be a strong addition to his catalog. Songs like "Vertigo," which finds Khalid crooning over a guitar and string laced track, as well as the title track "Suncity," showcase his state of mind at 20 years old, as well as artistic progression. The latter song also features Khalid singing parts in Spanish.

The EP is rife with themes, which include love, identity, family issues, and self-development. Khalid uses the EP as a medium to chronicle his coming-of-age, and presents this body of work to connect with individuals who may be experiencing similar things.

"More than anything in life right now I want growth. I want my music to grow and represent how I am growing up," Khalid said of the project. "Suncity is the start of a new era for me, this music poured out of me and I didn’t want to wait to share it. I wanted to be able to live in this moment with my fans and my friends and speak from the heart."
