Has anyone else noticed that a number of DJs and producers in the dance music realm have come down with some kind of illness or injury during the first half of 2013? Everything random food poisoning to assault has stopped the progress and tour schedules of some of our favorite acts this year, although we're not sure why. Hopefully it's not open season on DJs, and we're just seeing a slew of wild coincidences in the EDM scene. Whatever the case may be, here are the stories we've seen and reported on regarding the ill health of DJs and producers in the dance music scene in 2013, so far.

Avicii

Injury: Stomach-Related Issues

While we don't know what caused these issues, Avicii had to cancel dates in Australia (March) and Dubai (April) due to stomach-related issues. Avicii's another one who has been pretty open about his alcohol intake coupled with a hectic tour schedule, and has been hospitalized in the past for similar issues. On the upside, we wonder if his time off helped him finish #TRUE, which is scheduled to drop this year.

Nicky Romero

Injury: Mono

Nicky Romero prides himself on not using alcohol or cigarettes, as he prefers to keep his mind and body sound, especially when he's on the road. In May, he had to unfortunately cancel a number of gigs due to an illness that he recently spoke on, saying he was diagnosed with mono. Romero was advised by his doctors to rest, which he did adhere to, although he has since found a way to organize his schedule to where he won't actually miss gigs due to his illness. He's recently performed at Sensation, and is still working on tracks in his studio when he feels up to it.

Erick Morillo

Injury: Weight Loss, Feeling Sick, Divorce

Back in June, reports hit the wire that Erick Morillo was removed from the decks 45 minutes into his set due to "erratic behavior," namely playing the same song and looking worse for wear. Contrary to what our peers might think, Morillo didn't go out and say he had a drug or alcohol problem. In an interview with SW4, Morillo said that he had been dealing with the final stages of a divorce, and was in a "really dark place" that apparently had him not eating and feeling sick. We won't assume he was overindulging on booze or drugs, but he does have a past. He plans on hitting London's SW4 festival in August.

EDIT It looks like Erick Morillo has admitted that he was in Malibu, attending rehab over his drug and alcohol issues.

araabMUZIK

Injury: Shot During Robbery

araabMUZIK loves rocking ice; he learned to stay with fresh wears riding with Dipset. Unfortunately, an attempt to rob him for his chain in May landed araabMUZIK in the hospital, suffering from gunshot wounds. It stopped his tour schedule, with dates in May having to be canceled during his recovery, but he's since released his first project for Ultra Music, and we imagine the second half of 2013 will feature him making up for lost time.

W&W

Injury: Heart & Lung Complications

W&W's Willem van Hanegem was suffering from "heart & lung complications," although we've not heard what the situation was caused from. It was serious enough that they had to cancel their gigs for the second half of June 2013, although they did hold up their July 5 gig at Citizens Bank Park after the Phillies game:

Juan Atkins

Injury: Food Poisoning

The godfather of Detroit techno Juan Atkins was recently booked for two weekends full of gigs in Australia, but got hit with a severe bout of food poisoning that derailed his plans for the tour. Promoters do plan on bringing him back at some point to give the people their money's worth, although we've not heard word on Atkins' situation since the announcement.

Traxman

Injury: Shot During Robbery

While some might think gunshot wounds to the leg aren't serious, people have died from those injuries. We've not heard an update since the initial report in early June, but Chicago juke producer Traxman was shot and robbed of his passport and $250 in late May in Chicago. Luckily, fans helped raise $1300 to help him recover funds lost and get a new passport. Hopefully the legend is recuperating.

Crystal Method

Injury: Brain Surgery

In what's possibly the most serious condition on this list, the Crystal Method's Scott Kirkland was having headaches, and ended up getting an MRI on his brain, where doctors found a cyst. No brain tumor, thank you Rave Gawd. In all seriousness, though, Kirkland ended up having brain surgery to remove the cyst back in April. The ordeal is obviously completely serious, and ended up causing the group to cancel their tour dates and postponing the release of their fifth album until Scott gets well.

Bingo Players

Injury: "An Emergency Procedure"

DAD's not sure what caused the need for Paul of the Bingo Players to have to get an "emergency procedure" done, but in the case of EDM duos, all was not lost as Maarten was able to fulfill their obligations back in June. It only affected a handful of shows, and we still don't know what the situation was, although the last word from them was on June 26, saying that more shows would be canceled due to Paul's continuing condition.

DJ Nate

Injury: Beaten During Robbery

DJ Nate's spent more time with a mic in his hand than producing footwork tunes as of late, but the Chicago artists was taped being beaten and robbed in broad daylight in Chicago. The violence in Chicago is nothing to smirk at, as people are dying at a ridiculous rate; still and all, the brazen nature of this situation can't be ignored, especially when the assailant is so open with admitting to what he did.

Krafty Kuts

Injury: Broken leg

Krafty Kuts might be one of the more resilient DJs in 2013; he broke his leg during a snowboarding trip in April, but still continued to perform during his tour!

@FuntCaseUK broke my leg skiing last wknd pretty bad had an op in Austria not good timing got about 15 shows in 3 weeks coming up.
