Hudson Mohawke Shares New Song From 'Watch_Dogs 2' Soundtrack

When we last caught up with Hudson Mohawke, he was taking a break to focus on his 2015 album Lantern. Since then, he's been working on a number of things, including working on Kanye West's The Life of Pablo as well as his writing and production credits on ANOHNI's Mercury Prize-nominated album Hopelessness. What we didn't know what that he also worked on the original soundtrack for Ubisoft's upcoming video game, Watch_Dogs 2, which once again places gamers in the mind of a hacker. This go-round, players are Marcus Holloway, who is looking to "pull off the Hack of the Century," and is a follow-up to their 2014 open-world hacking game WATCH_DOGS.

In talking about the project, HudMo says that "working on a soundtrack was a really exciting and refreshing prospect for me, especially considering the themes involved in the game are things I’m also passionate about." He goes on to say that Watch_Dogs 2 and the ANOHNI album have allowed him "to experiment and have the opportunity to reach new audiences with my music without needing a “genre” stamp." HudMo says that he took some influence from "some cult sci fi soundtracks," which makes sense when you remember he covered John Carpenter's "Escape," the theme from Carpenter's 1981 classic film Escape From New York.

The 15-track album, which is titled Ded Sec - Watch Dogs 2 (OST), is named after the hacking group (Ded Sec) from the video game. As you can hear in "Shanghaied" in the clip up above, there's definitely that early HudMo sound in it, blurring the lines between hip-hop and electronic music. Pre-orders are available now, and the soundtrack drops on November 11 via Warp Records, while Watch_Dogs 2 is out on November 15.
