Despite the rain, Travis Scott brought the heat to the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City on Saturday night during his headlining set.
The Bronx-born rapper gave a wild performance as the Governors Ball Saturday headliner, which was the first time he headlined the festival. His performance began with a video themed around an amusement park before the screen went dark and flames went up in the air on the stage.
The first song Scott performed was the unreleased "Stargazing," a song that he has been testing out at his most recent shows. He quickly encouraged the crowd to open up a mosh pit before diving into "Mamacita." He went through "Way Back," "4 AM," and "Dark Knight Dummo" before he told his huge audience, “Okay New York City, that was a nice warm up."
Less than 20 minutes into the show, while Scott was beginning "Butterfly Effect," a total downpour caused the crowd to disperse. It was a persistent, heavy rain, but that did not stop Scott: He declared "We love the rain!" while performing his Grammy-nominated "Love Galore."
The audience that stuck it out were rewarded with performances of "90210," "Skyfall," "Upper Echelon," "Watch," "Antidote," "Sky Walker," and cuts from Huncho Jack, and Jack Huncho (his project with Quavo). He even brought out James Harden of the Houston Rockets.
Of course, Scott couldn't go through a whole hour-plus-long set without bringing up new music. He promised something new will be coming soon. "There’s no way I could allow myself to put out trash music, so I’ve been taking my time on it," he told the crowd. He also said he wants his next tour to include an amusement park at the venues and he's even been building test roller coasters.
