Serato is already the go-to software for many of the world's top DJs, and now the New Zealand-based software company is looking to disrupt the music production market with their latest offering, Serato Studio. While beat-making was traditionally a bit of a mysterious business, the role of the producer has received increased interest and notoriety in recent years with the ascent of talents like Metro Boomin, Mike WiLL Made-It, Tay Keith, Murda Beatz and more who have become stars in their own right. However, despite the jump in popularity, the barrier to entry to making music has still been fairly high, and that's exactly what Serato is aiming to address with their Studio offering.
Incorporating design and workflow elements from their existing Serato DJ software means that Serato Studio will be especially intuitive for DJs, but user-friendly enough that everyone can give it a try. “Over the years we’ve spoken to countless DJs and beginners who want to start making music but either don’t have the time, the hardware, or feel overwhelmed with attempting to learn production software,” says Serato’s Chief Strategy Officer, Nick Maclaren, in a press release. “We’ve reduced that steep learning curve commonly associated with music production.”
One of the key features of the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is the 100 pre-made drum patterns from different genres of music. The software also features an 808-style step sequencer that allows users to program their own sounds, more than 30 effects presets and a library of instruments, loops and built in-sounds.
As of press time Serato has “paused” beta signups to Serato Studio due to an influx of users, but you can still register for updates on the next opening here.
