In the 1980s, David Coverdale and Whitesnake were among the most popular hair bands and singers, known for their music videos as well as their songs.

Now, Coverdale has announced that he is leaving music for good. Whitesnake's most memorable song is Here I Go Again. Coverdale was also the frontman for the band Deep Purple.

He posted the announcement on his Instagram page on November 13.

“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, brothers and sisters of the Snake, a special announcement for you," he said in the video.

“The last few years has been very evident to me that it’s time really for me to hang up my rock and roll platform shoes and my skin-tight jeans. And as you can see, we’ve taken care of the lion’s wig. But it’s time for me to call it a day,” he added.

“I love you dearly. I thank everyone who’s assisted and supported me on this incredible journey. All the musicians, the crew, the fans, the family. It’s amazing.”

He concluded his video goodbye with a tribute to a Whitesnake song called Fare Thee Well.

According to the New York Post, Whitesnake, which formed in 1978, recorded 13 albums during its heyday. In 1993, Coverdale recorded an album with Led Zeppelin founder Jimmy Page. Whitesnake's last album was in 2019, and the band's last concert was in 2022, The Post reported.

Fans wished Coverdale well in his Instagram comment thread. "Thank you for all that lovely music and beautiful words," wrote one.

"Thank you so much for your music… it has profoundly touched my life and I’m glad to see my 9-year-old son becoming a fan as well. Enjoy the next chapter of your beautiful life!" wrote a fan.

"What a guy 🔥 absolute legend, enjoy your retirement David!! Thanks for the music," a fan noted.
