Today (Aug. 18) marks five years since Unknown T released his signature smash, “Homerton B”, and to mark the occasion, he’s put out a surprise EP called Before The Smoke.

It’s hard to overstate “Homerton B”’s impact when it first dropped: it was the first drill track to go Silver, it marked the turning point in drill’s incursion into the mainstream, and it kickstarted a tidal wave of success for T himself.

In the years that followed, the rapper has also become a prominent face in the fashion world. He made his catwalk debut at Paris Fashion Week for Louis Vuitton, while the late Virgil Abloh was at the helm; he also hosted an Off White show and collaborated on a line of merch with Billionaire Boys Club and PLACES+FACES.

New project Before The Smoke boasts production from LiTek, WhyJay, JAE5, R14, Remedee, Sean Murdz, M1OnTheBeat, Bally, and Ronan Decierd, as well as features from Scribz Riley and Lancey Foux, the latter of whom appears on the recently released “Free Slime / Sexy Girls”.

The final feature on the new EP comes from rising Nigerian star Odumodublvck, who joins T for “Welcome 2 My Strip”, which just got a fresh video from director Don Prod. Shot in between Lagos and Hackney, the video follows the two artists comparing and contrasting their home turfs.
