The emotional strain of a long-distance relationship provides songwriters with an almost endless source of heartache that can be poured into their music.

Rising Manchester singer Pip Millett seems acutely aware of this on her latest drop, the double A-side release "Drunk & Alone" / "On Your Mind". The former, in particular, channels the pain of longing to hear that special someone's voice and having to make the most of fleeting interactions into something that's dark, wistful and passionate in equal measures. Backed by the moody, emotive production of Abnormal Sleepz (also from Manchester), Millett weaves her painful tale with the kind of vulnerability and soulfulness that's been winning us over for the past couple of years.

On the story behind the track, Millett told us: "'Drunk And Alone' was written about being in a long-distance relationship. We're both busy at different times. I go to uni and by the time my day has finished he's already in work, which makes the distance even harder to deal with. We miss out on pretty large chunks of one another's lives, but in the end it's worth it. Even if one week it's just drunken phone calls on the weekend."

Catch her supporting AlunaGeorge on December 9 at her London Omeara show.
