Continuing a run of hits that stretches way, way back, Birmingham MC Jaykae is back with "On Top", a garage-tinged number that celebrates his many successes. It's hard to believe given his omnipresence this year, but this is actually his first solo outing of 2020.
Produced by A Class, "On Top" opens with a twinkling garage melody before some lurching grime tones thunder through the track. With that solid steel backing, Jaykae strides over the beat with lyrics That'll strike man down like Pika, as he puts it. From start to finish he delivers his bars with a flow that sounds even more calm and collected than normal and you can hear the influence of his hometown in every last syllable.
You'll also notice Jaykae and his team are all clad in the finest facemasks, although we're assured this was filmed before the full lockdown came into effect and therefore all hijinks are 100% safe and responsible.
