Last week, DJ and Who We Be podcast host Henrie Kwushue kicked off a three-part Who We Be on tour series that started in London. Centering the film around Notting Hill Carnival, we got to see all the different elements that come together in the build-up to West London’s pride and joy—namely the food, fashion and music, and the creatives who make it all happen.
For the second leg of her tour, Henrie jetted out to Accra in Ghana where she connected with local music legend Smallgod to show her the sights and sounds of the city. She started with a trip to Jamestown, one of the more historic parts of Accra, where she picked up some drum lessons before heading off to explore the rest of the city, stopping off at one of the most popular salons for some R&R and a gossip.
She also got a first-hand look at some classic Ghanaian home cooking courtesy of Auntie Bea and Gyakie at famed restaurant Green Pepper, before heading back out to take a close look at the city’s skate culture.
All of that was building up to the big event: Ghana’s Global Citizen festival. This event is a massive point of pride for Ghanaians, and with good reason. There, Henrie got a front-row seat for performances from Usher, SZA, Stormzy, Gyakie, H.E.R., Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Vic Mensa and Tems.
The final leg of Henrie’s trip takes her to Kingston, Jamaica, where she connects with local singer Jane Macgizmo, who gives her the rundown on the best places to eat and the key spots to hit up for anyone new to the city. You’ll also get to see Henrie take a dance class with Laa Lee and drop in at a studio session with Roze Don, Teflon and Troublemekka.
