Last year, Ghanaian star Black Sherif caused a huge stir with his debut album, The Villain I Never Was, a timely blend of highlife, reggae, rap and drill that won him widespread critical acclaim.
“I see myself as a preacher for the streets,” Black Sherif told us in last year. “That’s where I’m from. I don’t only talk about the struggles, I also talk about the beauty of it. It’s not always negative.”
Keen to strike while the iron’s hot, the “Kwaku The Traveller” hit-maker returns with Take Care Of Yourself Blacko, which features two new tracks: “YAYA” and “Simmer Down”.
Both tracks have a bit of a soulful edge to them, while still incorporating a lot of the sounds that featured on the album like drill and highlife. “YAYA” is all about healing and having faith, while “Simmer Down” packs a bit more energy as he fires off a playful rebuke to those trying to clip his wings.
