It’s been an emotional year for Berwyn.
Earlier this year, the Romford-based artist returned to his home country of Trinidad for the first time since he arrived in the UK aged nine, giving him a long overdue chance to reconnect with the friends and family he’d been cruelly separated from by years of passport and visa issues. Understandably, it was a lot to deal with and all the compounded traumas bubbled up and gave him quite a bit to process.
This morning, he dropped off two new tracks—“3450” and “Chasing Lights (Demo)” that do just that. Both tracks stare deep into that trauma; “3450” comes with a booming, ominous low-end to back his sobering tale, while “Chasing Lights” slows things down and takes a more circumspect approach, reflecting on those traumas once the dust has settled and what the long-term effects have been.
Going into a bit more detail, Berwyn shares: “‘3450’ understands the trauma that has been left by other experiences; it dwells on what has shaped who I am. ‘Path To Satisfaction’ completely anticipates the future, ‘3450’ takes away the anticipation and settles on reflecting. It’s a song for individuals who have experienced trauma—sometimes things happen that are out of your control and they leave an imprint on you, it stays with you. It’s a little therapy session. ‘Chasing Lights’ continues that reflection in the present moment, after the unpacking. A little window into where my head’s at with it all now. All in all, I’m just dancing along my own timeline.”
On top of all that, he also announced that he’d be heading out on tour in early 2023 where he’ll be heading to Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol, Cardiff, and Brighton, ending with his largest show to date at KOKO in London.
