Toronto artist Mustafa is back. In an Instagram post, he announced the first single from his debut album, "Name of God," will be coming Oct. 17.
He posted a short video teaser of the song, along with the track's chorus written out:
"Whose Lord are you naming? When you start to break things? It's my only life you hold, and when you left me waiting, I thought, did you do it in the name of God? Did you do it in the name of God?"
In a message to fans, he also referenced the death of his brother earlier this year.
"When my big brother was killed in what will always feel like yesterday," he said in the note. "Knowing the suspected murderer was someone he held as a friend, someone he prayed with—it led me to believe that maybe his love was his end?"
He ended the Instagram caption with: "Still here," as a note.
Mustafa's fellow Toronto artists were quick to express their excitement about his return. "Habibi," said Daniel Caesar, while Savannah Ré simply added a "wow."
Mustafa appeared last year on Metro Boomin's album Heroes & Villains on the track "Walk Em Down (Don't Kill Civilians)" with 21 Savage.
He also appeared on "Toronto 2014" from Daniel Caesar's album Never Enough. Caesar explained the origin of the track on an episode of 1x1 with Alex Narvaez earlier this year.
Mustafa dropped When Smoke Rises in 2021.
