Performing a medley from Album of the Year-nominated DAMN., Kendrick began by rapping the lyrics of "XXX" over the beat we're used to hearing from "Lust" before U2 joined him on stage. Then Dave Chappelle came out following a verse from "DNA." Kendrick finished the dramatic medley with "King's Dead."
People watching live couldn't get enough of K. Dot's opening performance:
This continues Kendrick's growing streak of memorable performances at the awards show, dating back to his Grammy stage debut alongside Imagine Dragons in 2014, where they played a mashup of "m.A.A.d City" and "Radioactive."
Last year, Kendrick delivered one of the most memorable performance of the night. After walking out as part of a chain gang, he delivered a politically-charged rendition of "The Blacker The Berry" before switching things up and performing "Alright" in front of a giant blazing bonfire.
Aside from his opening performance, Kendrick is nominated for seven awards at the 60th Grammys, including Record of the Year and Album of the Year. Before the night's telecast began, Kendrick already won his first Grammy of the night for Best Music Video with "Humble."
