Kendrick Lamar might be getting close to finishing a new album, according to fellow Top Dawg Entertainment artist Isaiah Rashad.
During an Instagram Live session in the studio with TDE CEO Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, the Tennessee rapper said that he recently heard "damn near" a whole new Kendrick Lamar album. Speaking about upcoming TDE releases, Rashad told fans, "[ScHoolboy] Q finna drop. SZA’s hair is green, so you know it’s going to be fire. You never know what’s going to happen." Then he revealed, "[Top] just played me a whole Dot album, damn near."
Last Wednesday, Tiffith tweeted that fans should expect two more albums from TDE this year. Then the label boss opened the door for more releases by saying he's "trying for 4."
Tiffith recently fueled anticipation for ScHoolboy Q's next album by revealing that the forthcoming project is "90 to 95% done." The release will be Q’s first full-length solo effort since 2016’s Blank Face.
Before Rashad let the cat out of the bag about a new Kendrick Lamar album, it seemed unlikely that the Pulitzer Prize-winner would deliver another project so soon after dropping the Black Panther soundtrack and DAMN. within the past 18 months. A 2018 release still seems unlikely, but Rashad's revelation hints that a fifth studio album from Lamar might be coming sooner than most of us anticipated.
