Not everyone was a fan of Sexyy Red’s Rolling Loud Miami performance this past weekend.
Conservative political strategist Joey Mannarino took to Twitter, criticizing the St. Louis rapper for bringing two men out on leashes during her set.
“Sexyy Red, the ‘artist’ behind 'Poundtown,' just came out with two black men at her feet like dogs at Rolling Loud,” Mannarino wrote. “Hip-hop culture has been taken over by people who want to forever emasculate Black men. It’s sad.”
When Sexyy Red caught wind of his comment, she fired back, writing, “I’m freaky shat [sic] up.”
In the clip, the 25-year-old walks out onto the stage, led by two men who are on all fours. She shared the clip on Instagram, which got her suspended shortly after.
A follower responded to the exchange between Sexyy Red and Mannarino, writing, “When it was Bytches on the leash nobody had nun to say.”
The user was referencing NLE Choppa’s video for his “Slut Me Out (Remix)” from earlier this year which saw NLE walking Sexyy and Sukihana by their hair like dogs. NLE was slammed for the stunt, with many viewing the act as degrading to women.
He later commented on the incident in an interview with The Breakfast Club, saying he didn’t make the women take part in his antics.
“Everything's like a learning experience. I know how sensitive the world is, and I know the type of person I am as well," he said. "I do a lot of good [and] I feel like I was kind of getting attacked in that area."
He continued, "I've watched people degrade women in real life, and I feel like, with me having fun [as a] 20-year-old male...with the girls that wanted me to do it, I feel like what is the conversation really about?"
