It’s a day of celebration for Mark Hoppus.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Blink-182 frontman took to social media to announce he was officially cancer free. The news comes more than three months after the 49-year-old revealed he had been battling stage 4 lymphoma.
“Just saw my oncologist and I’m cancer free!!” he wrote. “Thank you God and universe and friends and family and everyone who sent support and kindness and love [...] today is an amazing day and I feel so blessed. Can I get a W in the chat?”
Hoppus told fans it’ll take him until the end of the year to “get back to normal,” and that he’ll have to undergo scans every six months to catch potential recurrences.
During a Twitch livestream back in July, Hoppus spoke candidly about his diagnosis and his experience with chemotherapy.
“The cancer isn’t bone-related, it’s blood-related. My blood’s trying to kill me,” he explained. “The first chemo, I felt like I was a zombie that fell onto an electric fence and was just being shocked. The second round of chemo, I just felt very weak and tired. Really just like the worst flu ever. The third round of chemo, I started retching. Nauseous and that whole thing … We’re beating this cancer. It’s just a matter of time.”
Hoppus’ Blink-182 bandmate Travis Barker confirmed earlier this year that the group was working on a full-length studio album that would arrive by the end of 2021. The band has yet to confirm an official release date.
