Ahead of the release of his forthcoming 10th studio album Drillmatic: Heart vs. Mind, The Game paid a visit to Power 106 this week to spit some bars for the L.A. Leakers.
Over an unreleased Hit-Boy beat, the Compton rapper name-dropped several peers, including Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Kanye West, and Dr. Dre.
“Ain’t no competition, so Kendrick went to Africa/Ain’t no competition Cole went and got his baskets up/But I’m here masking up, with the masking tape, feins knocking on the door, we closed, don’t ask for Ye/You see the Aftermath chains then don’t ask for Dre/I’m a legend now, fuck when I pass away,” the Game raps.
Originally scheduled to drop on June 17, Game recently pushed the release of Drillmatic: Heart vs. Mind back to July 1, before it was delayed once again. When the LP arrives, it will serve as the official follow-up to his 2019 effort Born 2 Rap.
Back in May, the 41-year-old declared Drillmatic will be the best of the year.
“I know my album gone be the best album of 2022, ’cause the energy feels like I just signed my deal,” he wrote in a since-deleted post on Instagram. “You’ve never heard me rap like this, I promise you.”
Game went on to say listeners will hear what he means upon release.
“When it drops, I promise you that if you put your ear to it you will then understand why I’m the best rapper alive,” he said. “My controversy has always stepped on my greatness, but that’s all about to change. This album has a strong hold on being the best album of my career. It’s just different… the last time I pulled over & wrote in my car was ‘I don’t need your love’ on The Documentary. Only thing is, back then it was a U-Haul. Today I pulled over the G-Wagon on Labrea because I couldn’t believe how dope the shit in my head was.”
