Months after Lil Tjay was charged with gun possession after he was arrested in New York City while on his way to the set of a music video with Ice Spice, the Brooklyn rapper’s attorney has spoken out regarding the matter.

Tjay’s attorney, Dawn Florio, reached out to nydrillofficial on Instagram to explain why Tjay was recently booked for the unlawful possession of a firearm without a permit.

“This arrest is not a new gun charge.” Florio told nydrilloffical in the below DMs. “He had to turn himself in for the case where he was a victim where he was shot multiple times.”

Florio acknowledged that while Tjay was booked despite being the alleged victim of the incident, writing, “The allegation is that there were guns in the car.”

Back in January, Tjay was arrested after police pulled him over and allegedly found four loaded guns inside the rapper’s SUV. After determining that none of the suspects had a valid license for the firearm, Tjay and the others were ultimately charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Tjay subsequently appeared in Bronx Criminal Court, where he was ordered held on $30,000 cash bail and $90,000 bond.

“There was a gun that was allegedly found behind the driver’s seat in the back,” Florio said at the time, adding that one of the guns was “found on the licensed security guard. And two guns in a lock box. They started searching the car and they found the guns.”
