At the turn of the century, legendary Philadelphia crew State Property catapulted into the mainstream on the strength of its affiliation with Roc-A-Fella. While the Philly crew brought a deep stable of talent to the ROC, the two-headed monster of Beanie Sigel and Freeway made the group a household name.

During a recent interview with VladTV, Freeway shed light on the early-2000s beef between Roc-A-Fella and The LOX. According to Freeway, the beef started with “little shots” exchanged between Jadakiss and Beanie, culminating in the former’s diss track “Un-Hunh!.”

“When we heard that, we knew that’s what it was,” Freeway recalled.

Later, Jada dropped another less-subtle diss with “Fuck Beanie,” a track in which he also targeted Freeway.

“I remember when I first heard that, I was like, ‘Wow,’” Freeway shared, admitting that he respected Jada’s bars aimed at State Property. “I was like, ‘That’s what I’m talking about. Let’s get it.’”

Freeway continued, “And that was a chess move. ‘Cause, potentially, if it went the right way, he would’ve got Mac outta there, and me outta there, at the same time.”

“That was a brilliant chess move,” he concluded regarding Jada’s bars on “Fuck Beanie.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Freeway recalled how the beef between State Property and The LOX nearly turned fatal. The incident occurred during a Roc-A-Fella appearance at Hot 97, which saw the State Property crew deliver more disses aimed at Jadakiss. The New York native took things personal, and, as confirmed by Sheek Louch in the beginning of the above clip, threatened to bring a gun to the radio station studios to confront the Philly crew.

“It was a crazy situation,” Freeway said. “I’m happy he didn’t do that.”

Freeway went on to recall a moment years later when Jadakiss and Beanie made peace.

“We was somewhere out here, in the park, and we talked and squashed everything,” he explained. “I was out there with them.”
