Marvel and Spider-Man fans have been waiting for a film featuring Miles Morales, the Brooklyn-raised black Spider-Man partially inspired by Donald Glover, for quite some time now. Morales will finally make his big screen debut next month with the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which sees him juggling his superpowers with being a regular kid, only for things to get even crazier when Miles' world crosses with alternate universes, revealing even more Spider-Men.
Swae Lee, however, thinks the character deserves his own live-action film, and he wants to be the one to play him. "It's only right, if anyone's gonna be the first black Spider-Man in a real movie it should be me," he told TMZ. "Especially because I made the soundtrack Miles Morales was singing in the movie, it's only right I be the black Spider-Man, so Marvel, we need to get together."
It should be noted that in the clip, Swae was dressed pretty much only in shorts despite facing the 15-degree NYC weather. "I'm fighting the cold," he proclaimed at the start of the video while swinging punches.
Previously, Swae Lee contributed to the Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack with "Sunflower" alongside Post Malone. In 2017, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Morales does in fact exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Donald Glover played his uncle Aaron in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Shameik Moore, who played the lead character in 2015's Dope, voices Morales in Into the Spider-Verse.
Leaked Sony emails from 2015 gave off the impression that company wasn't ready to put Morales on the big-screen, reportedly making it "mandatory" that Spider-Man be both white and straight. However, with Into the Spider-Verse hitting cinemas on Dec. 14, it would look as though at least one of those requirements has changed for them.
