31-year-old LaKevia Jackson—the mother of one of Young Thug’s children—was shot and killed in Atlanta following an alleged argument at a bowling alley.
Police are searching for the man who fired on Jackson on Thursday at the Metro Fun Center. When authorities responded to reports of a shooting, Jackson was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Per local CBS reporter Tori Cooper, LaKevia’s mother Sherina Jackson said her daughter was at the bowling alley for her best friend’s birthday. A fight over a bowling ball escalated, and the currently unidentified suspect waited for her in the parking lot for 20 minutes. Her mother added Thug and LaKevia’s 14-year-old son “isn’t doing well” upon hearing the news.
“I didn’t know that was going to be the last time I talked to my baby,” said LaKevia Jackson’s mother. “I could hear her over the phone crying and screaming then her best friend said she’s not breathing! I lost my baby all over a bowling ball.” At a press conference on Friday, the Atlanta police department said an individual was spoken to regarding the shooting, but did not identify them as a suspect.
“This is truly an atrocity. A young lady has lost her life over a bowling ball. We talk about conflict-resolution time and time again and this is an escalated dispute so we will work this case through the night and we will find the person responsible,” Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said. “You know who you are so go ahead and turn yourself in.” Based on ballistic evidence and surveillance footage, police said they are close to making an arrest.
In a comment provided to WSB-TV2, a spokesperson for Young Thug said the rapper will not be releasing a statement at this time.
