In a Roc Nation roundtable discussion, DJ Clue spoke about the time he leaked an early demo version of the Notorious B.I.G.'s "One More Chance."

Joined by former Roc-A-Fella Records A&R Wayne 'Wayno' Clark, Nyla Symone, Jim Jones, DJ OG Ron C, and DJ Holiday, the Desert Storm founder opened up about facing threats from the iconic late rapper. "I got my hands on a Biggie record, it was a demo,” Clue said. “I didn’t really know everyone at Bad Boy yet … I put it on a mixtape, Biggie got mad. He went on Hot 97 and said, ‘Yo Clue, when I find you, I’m gonna kill you’ or whatever he said—on live radio.” The song was eventually released officially on Biggie's debut studio album, Ready to Die.

Asked how he felt when the biggest rapper in New York City at the time called him out, he said he immediately knew what to do. “I got on the phone and said, ‘Yo, we gotta do a diss record, come on!’" he explained. "I was young, we was rolling around on a different type of time. I didn’t know who they were and they didn’t know who I was. They didn't even know what I looked like!”

Since DJ Clue was relatively anonymous at the time, at least when it came to his appearance, he bumped into the Bad Boy Records street team while Biggie still had issues with him. "They know they got drama with me, they know they got beef with me, but they don’t know what I look like," he continued. "So I’m walking to 7/11 and I see like 30 of them coming down the street. I walked right through them! DJ Clue walked right by them.”

Later down the line Clue was able to sort out his issues with the Bad Boy Records crew after Diddy called record executive Steve Stoute's office. “He was like, ‘Yo, who’s this?’ I’m like, ‘This is Clue.’ He’s like, ‘What?!’ The phone froze for a second. He was like, ‘Yo playboy, wassup with all that?’" he said. After the call, he met with Diddy and they were able to talk it out.

"I feel like he felt like the relationship was more important than taking it to the wrong place," he shared. Speaking with DJ Envy in 2020, Fat Joe said that Biggie was so furious about the unauthorized release of "One More Chance" that he grabbed a gun and went looking for Clue. "He went through the crowd looking for clue 'cause I think Clue was putting his exclusives on the tapes," he told Envy.
