UPDATED 08/17 9:20 a.m. ET: Sam Asghari has filed for divorce from Britney Spears after just over one year of marriage.

TMZ reports that Asghari cited "irreconcilable differences" in his filing to end their marriage. He is seeking attorney fees and spousal support. His attorney Neal Hersh, though, has suggested that he might contest the prenup that Spears had him sign ahead of their marriage in June 2022.

"[Sam] has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party," the legal documents read. "There are various items of community and quasi-community assets and debts, the full nature and extent of which are unknown to [Sam] at this time." According to the divorce filing, they separated on July 28.

Page Six reports that Britney Spears has hired noted divorce attorney Laura Wasser, whom she previously hired when fighting for custody of her children with Kevin Federline in 2008.

A source told ET Online that Spears has been struggling to deal with the divorce, which comes after the couple allegedly had an argument in which he accused her of cheating.

"She has been denying any cheating allegations and going through a lot of emotions," the source said. "She is hurt because the situation brings up old feelings for her. This is the last thing she needed, especially after her boys moved to Hawaii, being worried about the fires there, and so on. She has been trying to get back on her feet and be healthy emotionally, physically, and mentally. Britney has people by her side and her immediate circle is there for her. They are rallying around her."

Britney Spears, 41, and her husband Sam Asghari, 29, are reportedly headed for divorce.

As reported by TMZ, sources close to the couple said that they recently had a huge argument in which Asghari accused Spears of cheating on him. Following the fight, Asghari moved out of their house and moved into a place on his own. They're said to have since separated, with one source adding, "It's only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce."

Spears and Asghari got engaged in 2021 and married last year. They first met on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video in 2016.

The couple has made headlines a few times following the end of Spears' conservatorship in 2021. There's been a number of public incidents and in February it was rumored that he staged an intervention for Spears alongside her friends and family. "An intervention did not occur," Asghari said in a statement earlier this year. "My wife is in full control of her life and will continue to make all decisions involving her care regardless of circumstances. Speculation on her health is inappropriate and should end immediately."

In May, there was mounting speculation that they were going through a rough patch, but they decided to shut down the rumors by sharing a video of them kissing on Instagram.

In an unauthorized documentary from TMZ, it was alleged that Spears got physical with Asghari during arguments. She did not directly respond to the allegations, but Asghari called the exposé "disgusting" via his Instagram Stories.

“I found it absolutely disgusting for the people who were in her life when she didn’t have a voice, they went and told her story like it was theirs,” Asghari said in a video. "All of a sudden—after 15 years when she’s free after all those gaslighting, all those things that went down—now you’re going to put her under a microscope and tell her story? ... No, no, that’s also disgusting, so don’t do that, and don’t believe what you read online."

They have yet to publicly comment on reports they've split.
