Vel the Wonder has been bubbling in rap’s Southern Cali underground and was most recently put on more radars when she set off Peter Rosenberg’s project Real Late in the intro that dropped this past June. The Baldwin Park native showcases a dizzying display of lyricism in every one of her tracks, and the one we’re premiering a video for today is no different. With “Uma (Samurai),” Vel personifies the lyrical assassin in her, complete with her own stunts.
She had this to say about the concept of the video:
“Vel the Wonder, skilled assassin, resides in peace and tranquillity at her home on a hilltop. It is soon stripped away when a rival Boss, envious of Vel’s reputation, sends his goons to take her out. This sets a course to the inevitable showdown between Vel the Wonder and her formidable adversary.”
This is the intro track to Vel’s album Trophy Wife, which you can stream below.
