Like many artists, Mahalia has proven you can’t lock down creativity. The British singer-songwriter returned this week with her Isolation Tapes EP—a three-track project she announced just several days ago.

"Since being at home, I’ve spent a lot of time writing new music and listening to old music," she said in a statement. "I found songs that I’d forgotten about, listened to them and fell in love with them all over again. In these uncertain times, when we have so little control over what is going to happen next, I think we have to focus on what we can control. Music is where I feel that most. And I’m so proud to be putting this EP out!"

Isolation Tapes, which dropped on Mahalia's 22nd birthday, features the tracks "Plastic Plants," "Too Nice,” and "BRB," co-written by Ebenezer. The singer said she shot a video for the latter cut while in lockdown because she couldn’t wait.

"I wrote this song back in January with Ebenezer. We were in LA and I was about to fly to New Zealand for tour," she tweeted. "I love this song and I couldn’t wait to make a video for it. Because of the circumstances, I couldn’t... so I made one myself."

You can stream Isolation Tapes now on Apple Music and Spotify. The EP follows her 2019 debut album Love and Compromise and arrives about two months after Cam'ron hopped on the remix of her Ella Mai-assisted "What You Did" track.
