No one does the holidays quite like the Kardashian-West family. Case in point? The insane gift Kim and Kanye got for their oldest child, North West.
On Christmas Eve, Kim shared a series of Instagram stories in which she showed off the new—well, technically old—jacket she and Ye gave to their 6-year-old daughter. And, no, this wasn't another custom Balmain piece; it was a jacket worn by one of the most famous entertainers of all time: The King of Pop.
"For Christmas, Kanye and I gave North this jacket. And this was Michael Jackson's jacket that he wore with Elizabeth Taylor," Kim said in the story, while sharing a glimpse at the military-inspired design. "And North is a really big Michael Jackson fan and we knew she would love this."
Kim goes on to say she and Kanye won the garment at an auction, but did not disclose how much money they had to shell out. (The singer's "Thriller" jacket sold for $1.8 million at auction in 2011; his Bad Tour jacket went for nearly $300,000 in November 2018.)
The reality TV star then showed a couple of photos of Jackson rocking the design during Taylor's 1997 birthday party. Kim then makes it clear the jacket will not be treated like a museum piece, as they've made several alterations that allow North to begin wearing the jacket now.
"We had it tacked up so she can wear it and the sleeves are half tacked-up so when she gets older, we can untack the sleeve and it can grow with her and she can have this for her whole life," Kim said. "She is so grateful and so excited."
