Ciara has dropped a surprise track, titled “Melanin,” which features a women powerhouse: Lupita Nyong’o, Ester Dean, City Girls, and La La Anthony.
The song is the debut of Lupita’s alter ego, “Troublemaker,” whom she first introduced last month on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. While La La brings her Latina swagger, City Girls bring the fresh and charismatic rhymes, with “Melanin” serving as the first song JT’s appeared on since she was released from prison. Ciara anchors the anthem, which was co-written and produced by hitmaker Ester Dean.
“This is ultimately an anthem of self-love, which is a journey I’ve been on since my Beauty Marks album,” Ciara said in a press release. “It celebrates the beautiful shades of culture that comprise the inner and outer beauty of everyone. Embracing the unique nature of our skin tones threads together the tapestry of humankind.”
