Fans can expect more vocal experimentation on Playboi Carti's upcoming Whole Lotta Red project.

Carti gave some insight on the Die Lit follow-up project, which he's been teasing for quite some time now, in a new cover story chat with Ben Dandridge-Lemco for The Fader.

"I could be done if I wanted to," Carti, who was interviewed for the piece amid back-to-back Coachella headlining stints, said when asked if the project was finished. "I'm just trying to top shit. I might make the hardest song ever tomorrow." Much of the new project, Carti explained later after cleaning up blunt ashes, was recorded on a mic set up by a "massive wooden table" in a dining room in an Atlanta home.

Roughly 50 songs have been recorded during sessions that began in late 2018. "Every day I discover something new about myself, and I just do it," explained Carti, who's making an effort to incorporate largely sounds he's "never heard before" into his new work.

Dandridge-Lemco notes in the piece that the new music sees Carti entering "new vocal territory" where the so-called baby voice is now higher-pitched and often stretched into something that's even more experimental, including—as exampled in the article—an ASAP Yams-honoring cut that sees Carti falsettoing over a lo-fi beat.

Elsewhere in the piece, Carti speaks on his relationship with Iggy Azalea ("I support everything she does"), awesomely advocates for letting our goddamn phones die ("I always let my phone die"), and reveals he and Metro Boomin have a potential project nearing readiness.

"I got a whole 'nother tape with this n***a . . . This shit could go on my album, but if it goes on the album, then we gotta change the whole thing," he explained.

I implore you to read the full thing right here, then mosh the fuck out in anticipation of Whole Lotta Red season.
