Having built up an impressive roll call of collaborators that includes the likes of Kanye, Travis Scott and Teyanna Taylor, LA-based Johan is now making the return to producing his own solo material. "Fifteen" is the newest track to emerge and the third he's released this year following a brief hiatus in 2018.
Spacious, dubby production lays the groundwork over which Johan shows us the full extent of his startling vocal range. Shades of James Blake and Sampha can be heard in the mix, but it's clear the time since 2017's Wilds EP has seen his songwriting and production mature in a big way. Besides being a little more subdued than some of that EP, new tracks like "Fifteen" are almost cinematic in their scale and the accumulated experience is plain to hear.
