Chris Darden's daughter, Jeneé Darden, posted on Instagram Sunday to address the harassment she's received on social media over her father defending Eric Holder, the man charged with gunning downNipsey Hussle. Darden became part of the public consciousness during the much-publicized 1995 O.J. Simpson trial, where he was assigned as one of the prosecutors.
On Thursday, Meek Millcondemned Darden for representing Holder, concluding that "self hate continues in the black community." In the midst of the backlash towards her father, Jeneé has been swept up in this whole mess, and wants to set the record straight regarding how she barely factors into his situation.
"Like many of you I found out about my father's involvement in the case while scrolling social media," she wrote. "I was not prepared for this backlash that has triggered back memories from the O.J. Simpson trial. My father is a grown man and has been a defense attorney for some time. I have no say in the cases he takes on."
Jeneé, who has previously expressed her condolences on Instagram after Nipsey's passing, wants the public to redirect its ire, and "channel that energy into continuing Nipsey's legacy."
"Instead of attacking me and others who have nothing to do with this case, channel that energy into continuing Nipsey's legacy in strengthening our community and uplifting each other," she wrote. "Thank you for those who have been supportive of me. I don't know how this will play out, but I will continue to pray for Nipsey Hussle's family. May they have peace and justice."
