YBN Almighty Jay Speaks on Attack and Robbery: "I Knew It Was My Fault, I Didn’t Have No Security’

YBN Almighty Jay says he was laughing about the incident.

More than two weeks have passed since YBN Almighty Jay was viciously attacked and robbed. Now, after 300 stitches and a retrieval of his chain, the rapper has shared insight on his hand in the situation.

Shortly following the incident, YBN Almighty Jay released a track called "Let Me Breathe" that not only touches on the robbery but also dives into a host of other feelings. On Friday, Jay stopped by Genius' "Verified" to decode some of the themes present in "Let Me Breathe" as well as shine light on his attack.

"I ain't gon' lie I was laughing about it," Jay said when describing his reaction to the attack. "But, it's like, 'What do we do?' We don't do nothing and act weak...or I'm like fuck it this how I get paid." He went on to add, "I'm about to drop a song with the stitches in my face because everybody want to see them. I made the choice to shoot the video...it's not like I was crying about it."

Although this might not be the expected response, Jay went on to explain how the situation led him to showcase his humanity on "Let Me Breathe." "People like you just because you're famous and shit, you live this perfect life," he described. "But, shit. The same way people feel about shit, I feel the same way."

This self-reflection allowed the rapper to look at his situation objectively. In doing so, he identified his mistakes in how the attack played out while furthered his desire to come back strong. "I knew it was my fault," Jay admitted. "I didn't have no security. I was tripping."
