Killer Mike has joined the ranks of other celebrities who view 21 Savage’s arrest by ICE and deportation as outrageous.

“21 Savage’s deportation is shameful on our nation,” the Run The Jewels member said in a new interview with XXL. “This kid has been in America so long he literally talks, walks, acts, is and is the father of an American.”

“I don’t think our immigration policy is always highlighted in how unfair it is for people of African Diaspora,” Killer Mike added. “Meaning people whose ancestors were kidnapped and taken from a continent, spread throughout the world as empires saw fit are now being asked to just simply belong to those world empires and not have some sort of world citizenry.”

ICE arrested 21 Savage on Sunday in Atlanta, claiming he's actually from the United Kingdom. A statement from 21’s team explained that the rapper came to the U.S. legally when he was seven years old and remained until 2005, at which point he briefly visited the U.K. and returned within the same month. Later, 21 “lost his legal status through no fault of his own.”

JAY-Z has also become part of the fight to free 21 from ICE’s custody. This week, TMZ reported that Roc Nation has enlisted attorney Alex Spiro to assist with all legal matters moving forward. Hov also released a statement regarding 21’s situation:

“The arrest and detention of 21 Savage is an absolute travesty, his U visa petition has been pending for 4 years. In addition to being a successful recording artist, 21 deserves to be reunited with his children immediately, #Free21Savage.”
