The occasion that brought the pair together was the birthday of their mutual friend Kid Cudi. The rapper and wailing half of Kids See Ghosts was celebrating his 35th birthday with West, Davidson and Dune actor Timothée Chalamet.
That Davidson and Cudi would have linked up is not surprising. The SNL star has been very frank about his fandom for the rapper, crediting his work with keeping him alive in an interview with The Breakfast Club.
“Cudi is the best out of all of them.” Davidson said. “He saved my life. I would’ve killed myself if I didn’t have Kid Cudi. If you’re 25 and under, I truly believe that Kid Cudi saved your life.” The comedian continued, “I truly believe if Man on the Moon didn’t come out, I wouldn’t be here.”
Even given that, it's surpirising to see Davidson and West being all smiles. The comedian called West's SNL stop "one of the worst, most awkward things I’ve ever seen here. And I’ve seen Chevy Chase speak to an intern.”
During his Kanye segment of "Weekend Update," Davidson drilled Ye for his Trump support and claims that slavery was a choice. "You know how wrong you have to be about politics for me to notice?" Pete said.
He also disputed Kanye's on-air claims that people tried to stop him from wearing a Donald Trump hat. “Kanye was wearing a MAGA hat…and he started saying people backstage tried to bully him into not wearing it. He wore it all week. Like, nobody told him not to wear it. I wish I bullied you. I wish I wouldn’t suggested that it might upset some people like, your wife, or every black person ever.”
Then again, Kanye has shown the ability to patch things up in the past. It wasn't too long ago that he and Cudi were at each other's throats.
