During his intimate performance in Los Angeles last night, John Mayer debuted a soft ballad called "I Guess I Just Feel Like."
"It's never been played, as I just wrote it," the singer-songwriter told the iHeartRadio Theater crowd.
The new tune touched on universal themes of love, hope, anxiety, and uncertainty: "I think I remember/This dream that I had/This love's gonna save us/From a world that's gone mad," Mayer sang. "I guess I just feel like/What happened to that."
"Thank you for listening to that new song, which is decidedly not a hit, let me just say," Mayer said following the debut. "There's nothing hit-like about it. But sometimes you've just got to tell the truth with a guitar and then you can get back to playing some hit songs."
"I Guess I Just Feel Like" marks Mayer's second new song of 2018, following the No I.D.-co-produced "New Light."
