As part of his ongoing charitable work, Chance the Rapper has teamed up with Lyft to give back to Chicago’s public school system.
The Coloring Book artist stars in the newly revived Undercover Lyft series, in which he drives unsuspecting customers around his hometown of Chicago. Chance disguised himself with nothing more than a pair of sunglasses and beanie, as he chatted with riders about everything from his rap dreams and current hip-hop stars to philanthropy and his pet peeves as a “driver.”
At the end of the ride, Chance surprises the passengers by revealing his true identity.
“God, this is amazing,” one rider said. “This is the coolest thing I’ve ever been a part of. This is so cool.”
The segment is in support of SocialWorks’ New Chance Fund, a non-profit that empowers Chicago youth by giving back to public schools. Riders could contribute to the cause through Lyft’s Round Up & Donate feature, which rounds up the fare to the nearest dollar and then donates the remainder to a charity.
“Together, Lyft and I have been giving back with Round Up & Donate for SocialWorks’ New Chance Fund,” Chance said in a statement. “Now, we’re having some fun in my hometown, Chicago, as I go undercover as a Lyft driver. I hope this video encourages even more folks to give back just by taking a Lyft.”
Austin Schumacher, Lyft's Head of Culture & Entertainment Marketing, added: "We're thrilled to be partnering with Chance the Rapper again, this time as our newest Undercover Lyft driver. We share Chance's commitment to investing in our communities and are proud to support Chicago Public schools through Round Up & Donate. We had a blast surprising fans with Chance as their driver while showing them how easy it is to donate to causes they care about."
