Sources with knowledge of the situation told Variety that Drake has some sort of “release” to accompany the announcement of his next record deal. “A well-placed source tells Variety that when Drake signs his next deal, he’ll have another release ready to drop to accompany the news,” the article stated.
As many fans know, Drizzy suggested he would leave Cash Money Records in the album’s A-side track “Is There More”: “Soon as this album drop I'm out of the deal/In the house playin' D'Angelo, ‘How Does It Feel?’”
Rumors of Drake’s departure from his longtime label have circulated for several years. Many assumed his 2016 More Life effort would’ve fulfilled his contractual obligations to Cash Money, and would’ve, therefore, allowed him to either go independent or sign with one of the majors. The details of Drake’s Cash Money contract have not been confirmed, so it’s important to take all these rumors with a grain of salt; however, his recent lyrics and the Variety report lead us to believe Drake is on the verge of starting a new chapter.
Complex reached out to Drake’s team for comment on the report. Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
