Earlier this year, Lou Phelps delivered the incredibly groovy track "Come Inside" alongside fellow Canada native Jazz Cartier over a dance-worthy rhythm produced Kaytranada. Today, he returns with yet another catchy single titled "Want To (For The Youth)" with a pairing video that has a little more weight to it.
At first glance, the glitchy Pique-directed visuals are eye-catching and work with the pace of Kaytranada's dizzying production. However, Phelps explains that the video isn't just about making something visually appealing to go along with this youthful anthem, but proving how much some of us only care about "cool" things. "'Want To' is a song for the youth, to encourage them to do what they want to," says Phelps. "I rap about materialistic stuff in the song, so in the video I become invisible at certain times, leaving the material things floating in air like the gold chain or the purple jackets."
Lou Phelps continues to showcase his ability to simultaneously make a track you want to move to, but also play on repeat to hype up your badass mood for the day. Regardless if he raps over a danceable record or bass-heavy one, Phelps continues to hold our attention.
There's no word if Lou Phelps and Kaytranada will link up for another official release from their brotherly duo The Celestics in the near future, but if they continue to work together it really doesn't matter what name they drop it under—we'll take it.
