DJ Jamz Supernova's nifty inside-the-producers-studio series has notched up some impressive guests so far; Toddla T, Roska, Jarreau Vandal to name just three. For the seventh edition in the series, Jamz has continued that run with an appearance from global club music encyclopedia Branko.
If you've heard even just a couple of Branko's productions, you'll already know how fascinating this one's going to be. As one third of Buraka Som Sistema — alongside DJ Riot, Conductor and Kalaf Ângelo — João "Branko" Barbosa was central in the growing and exporting of kuduro as well as something the group has described as "Zouk bass" (Zouk being a club sound originating from the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique). Since then, the producer has stepped out on his own as a purveyor of club sounds, from bashment to bassline, house, breakbeat, hip-hop and many, many more styles. Anyone with even a passing interest in production and music history would do well to tune in to this episode.
Catch Jamz Supernova on BBC Radio 1Xtra every Tuesday night from 10pm.
