The 76ers organization is making things right with Sevyn Streeter.
In late October, the 30-year-old singer announced she was prohibited from singing the national anthem just moments before she was set to step on the court. Streeter later posted a Twitter video in claiming Sixers officials had canceled her performance because of her jersey, which read: “We Matter.” The team received a great deal of backlash after the video began circulating around the internet, but they have since apologized to Streeter and have now invited her back to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
According to the Associated Press, Streeter will perform at the Sixers’ home game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 16. And, yes, she will be wearing her “We Matter” jersey.
Streeter shared the news via Instagram on Saturday, and gave additional details about her new partnership with the team. According to the post, she and the Sixers will “use this an opportunity to create positive change and dialogue throughout the community.” As part of this initiative, the team has reportedly pledged a donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Philadelphia.
