We all remember that moment in this year's Culture Clash when Wiz Khalifa's Taylor Gang (whom no one expected to even meet their opponents' levels) brought out the long-absent, almost mythical MC Ice Kid. Few were more surprised than even his own long-time compatriot Chip, pointing and grinning with the same level of glee coursing through the veins of half the audience (the half old enough to remember him, that is). But he's back. He's finally back! And he hasn't wasted any time jumping in the studio with Chip to channel that energy and excitement into some brand new material.
"Where's Ice Kid At" and its title are the most appropriate return to form for the estranged MC, and it's as strong as it needed to be after so many years away from the mic. "Where's Ice Kid At" cuts right to the quick, laying out a classic-sounding (but by no means dated or throwback) riddim with Ice Kid's bars bursting out of the track just 14 seconds in. With a gritty but well-produced and of-the-moment video to boot, few artists could return to form so quickly after such a lengthy absence.
Man, we've missed this.
