Breathy coos and hollow drums open up "Something Inside", the debut single from When I Am King, which we are delighted to premiere on Complex today. The four-piece band hail from Liverpool—a city loved for its high-life attractions, wags, and also home to unforgettable bands like The Beatles. But instead of taking the (typical) indie-pop route, they're giving us vocals akin to Robin Thicke, Miguel, but with a more electronic persuasion on production. Frontman Joe Hazlett told us over email: "'Something Inside' was recorded in a studio formerly owned by The Kray Twins (mental!) with Adam Jaffrey in Hoxton. He brought a whole new level of production to the track, which helped shape it, and brought a whole new element to it entirely." Listen to the song below, and catch When I Am King tonight at The Arts Club in Liverpool alongside Shura.
