This past August, Jeezy was arrested and charged with gun possession in California after cops effected a search warrant on his tour bus and found an assault rifle they believed to be the rapper's. The day before his arrest, a man was shot and killed at a concert for Jeezy and Wiz Khalifa at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, Calif. Five of Jeezy's associates were also arrested in connection to the incident. Those charges have now been dropped.
"I pray this had nothing to do with race but it definitely had nothing to do with evidence. Words cannot express how vindicated I feel with these charges being dismissed today,” Jeezy said in a statement. “While my team and I always knew that the allegations and charges were based on zero facts, the rush to judgment by both the media and the police has been extremely disappointing. I'm relieved that the truth has ultimately prevailed and I would like to thank those who have always stood by me including my family and fans."
Jeezy's legal counsel, Blair Berk, echoed the rapper's sentiment. "[Jeezy] should not have been arrested and this case should not have been prosecuted. We are pleased it has been dismissed, although frustrated that it took the police and prosecutors months to do the right thing."
Sources close to the situation told Complex the arrest was predicated on falsified findings from law enforcement. Police boarded Jeezy's bus because they smelled marijuana in the air, and then seized the weapons, which were lawfully owned by his security. The weapons were immediately inspected, cleared, and returned to Jeezy's security director. Police also seized a truckload of property, including clothing and jewelry, with a questionable warrant.
When booked, police forced the Orange County DA to interrogate Jeezy and his associates, and also requested that bail be set at $1,000,000 when a charge of this caliber normally calls for a bail of $20,000.
