As you probably heard (or unfortunately saw), Lifetime's Aaliyah biopic that aired this past Saturday was a mess that was really only good for Twitter jokes and plenty of memes. Leading the way with a good amount of criticism on his own Instagram account was Timbaland, and this morning, he decided to call into Hot 97 to talk about the film and why he decided to go in.

During the convo with Ebro, Timbo said that his major gripe with the film was that Aaliyah's first film biography should have been more than a Lifetime TV movie and that it was a major slap in the face to her legacy. If you recall, this was the same issue that Aaliyah's family first voiced when the film was announced, which is why the family didn't approve of the film or clear any of her music to be used in the project.

Timbo said that he hasn't yet talked to Aaliyah's family about the project, but he did state that he feels there is a total understanding from all parties that the biopic was not done in the right way. Listen to the full interview above.
