Following on from 2012’s impressive BAEP EP, east London's Barney Artist comes through with his new project, Bespoke. Across the 8-tracker, the rapper projects his innermost thoughts and feelings through fluid rhymes, over experimental productions from the likes of Spacedtime and Alfa Mist.
Standout "Beep Beep" matches a fast-paced grime flow with a piano-looped rap beat—this in contrast to the languid, reverential tones of "Love Language", there’s a great deal of versatility on show here, and it's all nestled within a warm bed of laid-back soul.
It’s a great time for London's experimental hip-hop scene right now, and by impressively reaching the No. 8 spot on the iTunes Hip Hop/Rap Chart, it’s safe to say people are finally responding to the talents of Barney Artist.
