Nas appeared on the latest episode of PBS' television series Finding Your Roots, which was filmed yesterday, alongside a small group of guests and the show's host, Henry Louis Gates Jr. The first hip-hop artist to visit the panel and learn about his own lineage, Nas felt shocked and angered when he was shown official documentation of a transaction in 1859 that enslaved an ancestor of his.

"First I was enraged when I looked at the bill of sale," Nas said. "I was like, that guy that owned property owes me some cash. My people made him really wealthy, so maybe I should find his family and talk."

Season two of Finding Your Roots will debut on September 23 and has delved into the family trees of Ben Affleck and Jessica Alba, among others. Watch a trailer for the forthcoming season, which includes a clip of Nas, above.
