After debuting a DJ Premier-produced track in December, 2 Chainz took to social media to confirm his new album Dope Don’t Sell Itself will drop later this month.
“Hey how u been!?” Chainz asked his fans on Twitter and Instagram. “Its been a min I know, but im back with something new & exotic. U know I ain’t been around this long w/o being a thinker and a constant student & teacher of the game… my album ‘DOPE DONT SELL ITSELF’ drops this month & single this week.”
He closed out by writing, “Sincerely, Two Tone Toni.”
The Dope Don’t Sell Itself announcement comes after Tity Boi dropped “Mortgage Free” in December, which officially ushered in the end of an era for Chainz.
“This gone be my last trap album, enjoy,” the 44-year-old wrote on Twitter in July.
“Mortgage Free” came three years after Premier and Chainz joined forces on PRhyme’s 2018 single “Flirt,” which Premier reflected on in a statement released alongside the new track.
“Since 2 Chainz joined Royce and I on PRhyme 2’s ‘Flirt,’ I returned the love back by sending him a beat while he was in the Bahamas with Statik Selektah earlier this year recording for various projects,” he explained. “I sent him the beat and he sent it back to me the same night.”
