After a disturbance call made to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) earlier this month, a gargantuan amount of weapons has been seized from an Ontario man who now faces criminal charges.
In the early hours of March 16, the OPP East Algoma Detachment responded to reports of a disturbance on Youngfox Road in Blind River. This led to the execution of a search warrant by the Detachment, the Canine Unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), which uncovered over 80 firearms, ammunition, high-capacity magazines, explosives, and suppressors—all of which are a mix of prohibited, restricted, and non-restricted weapons.
The amount of weapons seized is way more than any civilian would need for legal purposes like hunting, and there’s no way anyone needs a high-caliber sniper rifle to fire off for sport.
Police arrested 57-year-old Steve Brisbois, who has been charged with the following: Three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, two counts of explosives—making or possessing for unlawful purpose, two counts of possession of prohibited device or ammunition, four counts of possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with, and knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm—licence.
Brisbois appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River the day of the seizure and was remanded into custody.
