Facebook, that bubbling cesspool of outdated memes and nagging birthday reminders, announced Tuesday that it can now find your beautiful face in photos you aren't even tagged in.

"Powered by the same technology we've used to suggest friends you may want to tag in photos or videos, these new features help you find photos that you're not tagged in and help you detect when others might be attempting to use your image as their profile picture," Joaquin Quiñonero Candela, Facebook's director of Apple Machine Learning, said in a news release.

Facebook users will now receive a notification alerting them that a photo has been uploaded that may include their face, at which point users can choose to tag themselves or simply ignore the upload. If you're not in the audience for the photo or post (i.e. the uploading user has strict privacy settings), a notification will not be triggered.

Perhaps sensing that everyone would immediately slam them for, you know, being Facebook, the Stark Fuckerbird empire issued a separate news release Tuesday titled "Hard Questions: Should I Be Afraid of Face Recognition Technology?" The answer to that question, if you're into believing Facebook, is no.

"We aren't introducing, and have no plans to introduce, features that tell strangers who you are," Facebook's Deputy Chief Privacy Officer, Rob Sherman, promised. "This was a common concern we heard from people when we researched new features that rely on face recognition technology."

You buying that or nah?
