Marriage, despite the fact that it's so obviously an antiquated activity reserved exclusively for those trapped in a previous century, is still a thing. Sadly, you or someone you love likely knows someone who has been (or currently is) married. So is it love? Is it the tax breaks? Is it sheer boredom after running out of new episodes of the beloved dystopian documentary Friends? Scientists can't currently say, but they can likely say this: a 71-year-old Tennessee woman marrying a 17-year-old dude after meeting him at her own son’s funeral is definitely, um, something.

After a "whirlwind three-week romance," Gary Hardwick and Almeda Errell tied the knot before having sex "for the first time" on their wedding night, the reliably tremendous Mirrorreports. "It was wonderful, beyond my wildest dreams," Gary, now 18, said. "She really is my dream woman, and the physical side of our relationship couldn't be better." Despite their five-decade age difference, Gary is no stranger to the attention. According to the Mirror, he previously dated a 77-year-old woman.

"I wasn't looking for a young man, but Gary just came along," Almeda told reporters. "I just knew straight away that he was the one." Almeda and Gary are currently living together in a house with one of Alameda's grandkids, who's actually 3 years older than her beau.

Almeda’s first husband died due to diabetes complications in 2013, leaving her on a quest to find "a soulmate." Thanks to a chance invite from his aunt, Gary ended up catching Almeda's eye at her own son's funeral. "He was on the other side of the church, but I kept looking over at him," Almeda recalled to the Mirror. "It was like a bright light through the grief."
